I don’t know about you, but I take a lot of photos while I am out hiking. They become an integral part of my outdoor experience and the memories I create while spending time slowing down, getting off the grid, and basking in the amazing beauty and magnificence of nature. With Topo Maps+ PRO you can see where you took a photo, see what direction you were facing when you took the photo, and you can create a waypoint from the photo. If you need to remember a location to return back to it (i.e. where you parked your car or a maker for where you started bushwhacking) you can just take a picture with the camera on your iPhone and then later go back into Topo Maps+ to see where that picture was taken and to turn it into a waypoint.
My Photos
To see your photos on the map select the overlay button, then Photo Overlays, and then toggle on My Photos. The first time you toggle on My Photos, Topo Maps+ will index your photos in the background before they are displayed on the map. Any photo that was GPS tagged when the photo was taken will be displayed on the map.
When your photos are displayed on the map you will see an arrow pointing to the location where the photo was taken and you will see a count for how many photos are at that location.
You can tap on one of these photos to see the photo and get more information about the photo. If the photo has compass data in it, you will also see the direction you were facing when the photo was taken. The photo location is at the blue plus button and the direction is indicated with the green fan. If there is more than one photo at this location you can swipe side to side to view the other photos. You can also tap on the photo to see it full screen.
If you tap on the blue plus button you can choose to add a waypoint at this location or you can see all of the details about the photo. If you wish to remember a location in Topo Maps+, just take a picture using the camera app and then later come back and add the waypoint.
Flickr Photos
When I am planning a trip, I like to see what the area will look like. What kind of views will I have, what do the meadows look like, etc. With Topo Maps+ PRO you see public Flickr photos along trails so that you can see photos of what to expect while you are out on your hike. You can even turn the photos into waypoints, if you want to be sure and go to that exact location while you are out hiking.
Before you head out hiking you can see what a trail will look like by turning on the Flickr Photo overlay this. Turning on this overlay will only display public Flickr photos that are along trails.
Now as you scroll and zoom, Topo Maps+ will check Flickr to see if there are any photos along trails on the screen. You can tap on these photos, just like you can with My Photos and add waypoints. If the Flickr photo has compass information, the direction the photographer was facing when then photo was taken will also be shown.
